April Julep Maven Box

Hey guys,

So I was super stoked when the reveal for the April box was released. The box was chock full of bright vivid colours, which I love. There was actually a lot of fantastic unique (to me anyways) colours in this box, so after a short battle with the rational half of my brain the compulsive half decided this month was an upgrade month. The colour descriptions are a bit interesting but that is neither here nor there. Oh man was I happy I went for the upgrade, click for more after the jump.

Julep - Mila

Hey guys,

So I am super stoked that Spring is finally here, but with spring comes the BUGS. I swear our house is infested with fruit flies and I have NO clue where they care coming from. We don't leave food out, we don't have many house plants. I have turned into a cat who sits chasing fruit flies. So annoying.

This is a polish I have been sitting on for a while. I bought it because I love Mila Kunis and I'm just going to assume that is who it is named after, that being said I was fairly underwhelmed with this. It's just a mainly silver with rainbow glitter - glitter topper. Nothing super special here.

Zoya - Dream

Hey guys,

So my dog has started having a really hard time going up and down the stairs, which really worries me on account of 1) She pretty much lives in the basement and has to go up 10 stairs to get outside. 2) She's 110 lbs which means I cannot carry her up the stairs, even if I wanted to. Today I actually lured her up the stairs with raw bacon (I'm not proud of what I did, but it worked and that's all that matters) I don't know what is going to happen when she gets to the point where she can't go up the stairs at all.

So on to brighter shinier stuff, this is an unreal ocean blue scatter holo glitter polish. There is so much depth and sparkle to this, it's unreal. So shiny and pretty.
This was two coats.

Julep - Coretta - April Birthstone

Hey guys,

So remember how I was pretty stoked on everything yesterday, well I am in almost the complete opposite mood today. I'm just mopey and bummed out, so I'm having a Good Wife marathon. I feel like it's not helping much and I should be watching Pushing Daisies instead.

I have Julep's April birthstone to show you guys today. This is a dense white holographic glitter meant to represent Diamond. It does look like crushed diamonds. I tried to capture how sparkly this was.
This is 2 coats over black and white.

Julep - Martha

Hey guys,

So I had a great day, I spent the day freezing my butt off watching a couple members of my team show their horses, it was a good day. I majorly broke a nail on my Cinderella hand right down to the quick, now I have a really sad looking right hand.

I love this baby pink creme. It's just such a nice simple pink. This came in a mystery box and I'm glad I can add this to my collection, this was 3 coats. It was ALMOST 2 but there was some dragging on a couple nails.

Julep - Robin

Hey guys,

THANK ALL THAT IS HOLY! It is FINALLY Friday. This has been the longest week ever. I have a feeling this weekend is going to fly, I certainly don't want to. I'm off to a horse show for the day tomorrow. Yay road trip.

This is a dusty robin's egg blue. Used in yesterday's manicure for Lagertha. Funny how the black in that manicure seems to make this polish so much darker. I was quite impressed with this polish. Two coats and it was SO SHINY. This is with no topcoat.

Lagertha Manicure

Hey guys,

So I had seen designs inspired by Lagertha from Vikings' shield all over IG,

Katheryn Winnick had posted several to her IG account. Considering how big of a Vikings fan I am I knew I had to jump on that bandwagon. Well on Monday I noticed that she had posted my manicure in a collage of other manicures and asked people which was their fave. Last time I peeked I was winning. Yay!
And yes I fangirled big time over this.

For a base colour I used

Spellbound Nails - Watermelon Seeds

Hey guys,

So I love unique ideas that make you go "Why didn't I think of that?" Like this polish, It seems like such a simple idea, pink with black glitter to look like Watermelon seeds? Yet I haven't seen anything similar to this anywhere. I love me some Spellbound polish. Application and formula here was great, this was quite opaque. Honestly if I wasn't trying to see if I could get a bit of depth to the "seeds" I probably could have nearly gotten away with one coat.
This is two coats.

Cinderella Manicure

Hey guys,

I hope you guys are having a good Tuesday. So this weekend I forced myself to watch Snow White, it was a necessary evil in my quest to watch all the Disney movies. Snow White has got to be the WORST princess, what a useless tit. Honestly that movie without her is suddenly a completely watchable movie, there is something about her awful nasally voice and sheer useless-ness that KILLS me, but in other news - the forest animals are all super cute.

On the other hand Cinderella is a good princess, she comes from a crappy place so it's easier to rally behind her, plus she has awesome animal friends who sing and make clothes for her.
Please forgive my Cinderella for her rather large nose. The mice are cute though.

Cinema Swatch - Allie

Hey guys,

Today I have my very first Cinema Swatch polish for you guys. Recently they released a collection inspired by The Notebook, including a Noah/Allie duo. Well at the initial time of release they didn't ship to Canada, but shortly afterwards the Noah/Allie duo had sold out they began international shipping. So about a month ago on their IG they put out a notice that there was a very limited amount of Noah and Allie polishes that had been stocked in the shop. Well I managed to get my hands on Allie, but not Noah.

So I really like how adorable this bottle is, on the flip side I HATE the brush, the lid makes it hard to handle, and the wide mouth on the bottle for 1- makes me nervous because I just have visions of myself knocking it over. And 2- It seemed to make the polish goopy VERY fast. This is a lilac purple full of flecks which refused to show up on camera. This was a huge pain to apply since it got goopy very quickly.
This was 3 coats.

Easter 2014 Manicure

Hey guys,

I hope everyone had a great Easter weekend, and for anyone who has tomorrow off as well - I hate you.
Just kidding, I'm just jealous. I really don't want to go back to work tomorrow. I feel like it is going to be a very long week.

So I haven't done an Easter manicure in a couple of years, so I thought I would bust one out this year. I used the saran wrap technique for all five nails, then added the cute little bunny to my ring finger.

For this I used

A England - Excalibur 2013

Hey guys,

So today I went to the SPCA with my bestie and her parents to look at potentially adopting a dog for her. Holy crap, I just want to take them all home and snuggle them. We didn't wind up finding anyone perfect for Nicole, but it was still exciting to go and look.

So in 2012 A England re-released their Holy Grail polish with a updated version, and last year they did the same with their Excalibur polish shade. Click here for the original swatch. They didn't wind up discontinuing the old one, but here is the new one, we shall call it Excalibur 2013. This one has a lot more dimension to it, it actually reminded me a bit of OPI Designer De Better. Great application and coverage.
This was two coats.

Sleeping Beauty Manicure

Hey guys,

So I have spent ALL day running diagnostic tests on my computer, and I finally got it fixed. What a relief, theres nothing quite like that moment of panic of... okay if I wiped my computer right now what would I lose? Ugh stressful! Anyways hopefully all is good now.

Okay so next February my cousin and I are going to Disneyworld. In preparation for this I have begun a mission to watch all the animated Disney movies and a few of the live action ones. I have something like 70 movies left to watch. Anyways, for some of them I will be doing nail art. Sleeping Beauty is one of my all time favourite Disney movies. So here you will find, Aurora, her two dresses (or dress colours), Prince Philip's tunic and then a silhouette of Maleficent's castle which came out kinda funky.

Zoya - Tomoko

Hey guys,

Hallelujah for long weekends, I feel like I've needed a long weekend for a while now. It would be even better if we got Monday off too, but alas I do not work for the government.

So originally I wanted to post all the Zoya Pixiedusts I have in my untrieds together or at least in a string, but they keep getting pushed in favour of other polishes with higher priorities so this is the only one I have swatched right now. This is a golden cream textured polish. I really like this one it is kind of similar to Godiva but leans a bit more gold I believe. I need to swatch them side by side.
This was 2 coats.
